Finally, the cardigan wore through one too many times. The yarn was unravelled, and some pieces were knit into the stripes that accented the wool work socks that were standard wear on farm. Perhaps little bits were worked into a pair of mittens and the cardigan wool also made pompoms for hats. The buttons were counted, tied together with a piece of the yarn and stowed away in the button tin for a future sweater.
The original button is most definitely vintage, if not downright antique, since it was pulled from Grandma's button box and she collected buttons, yes, in a Danish cookie tin along with a chocolate tin or 3, for decades until her passing in the late 90's.
